WORKSHOP/CLASS OVERVIEW:
CLASS 1: The Business of Games - Introduction to Game VO
Welcome to the game industry. This in-depth class provides an overview of working in the game industry, the audience, the clients, and the business of acting for games. This workshop prepares you for understanding reels, auditioning, studio/home recording etiquette, performance techniques, game contracts and finding your wheelhouse. Utilizing actual script materials, you’ll have an opportunity to get professional advice to launch your career in games. Even if you are a seasoned actor, this is a revealing look into how the business works.
CLASS 2: Welcome to your Wheelhouse
Auditions, reels, and self-records have always been an integral part of game casting. Understanding your unique “WheelHouse“ is essential to growing your career and distinguishing yourself from others. We’ll discuss ways to embrace your style, as well as strategies for developing your ear, breathing techniques and more. Recent global changes have also placed a great need for virtual production and remote recording for games. Most projects require actors to re-orient their home recording systems to professionally engineer and perform remotely. In this 4-hour class, we’ll discuss best practices for choosing microphones and equipment, addressing sound quality, room size and booths, and proper mic placement.
We’ll also discuss working with script on screen, video etiquette, and interfacing with game teams.
CLASS 3: Dumb Ways to Die - Fantasy / Emotes
Class 3 focuses on understanding and interpreting game copy, and adjusting your delivery for an array of character types. Genres covered will include fantasy, combat, and open-world games. The course will help with understanding popular character archetypes, cultural influences, and breathing techniques to expand your range. This 4-hour class will also cover Efforts, Emotes, and Combat/Death reactions. Students will perform with actual recording scripts, director feedback, and professional recording processes, plus learning how to work add movement and breath to your lines and mic techniques.
CLASS 4: Echo Repeat - Working with Timed Dialog
This class focuses on techniques working with motion capture, international localizations, and dubbing with fixed timing limitations. Echo/Repeat originated at PCB and is now a popular technique for Fantasy, RPGs, Anime, and Adventure games. This class highlights the differences in character archetypes, cultural elements, and emphasizes vocal approaches to help broaden your range. This 4-hour class will feature in-depth techniques for Echo/Repeat and ADR/timing limitations. You will also spend time in the recording booth focusing on understanding recordings scripts, script notations, matching reference, working with cues, and much more.
CLASS 5: Games of War - Combat & Battle Chatter
Military titles have become some of the most popular in the gaming industry, and this 4-hour class will prepare you for combat! Keith and Valerie Arem have directed some of the biggest warfare franchises in the genre (Call of Duty, Titanfall, Ghost Recon), and will guide you through the essentials of battle chatter: creating realistic performances, protecting and sustaining your voice, dealing with vocal stress, pre-life, changing energy/intensity during a session, and breathing techniques.

CLASS 6: VOCAP - Cast Recording for Video Games
Performance Capture, Motion Capture, and Facial ADR are a big part of games. More and more voice-over projects involve physical performance, especially in the constantly-evolving gaming industry. In this 4-hour class, you will work with head mounted vocal capture systems, PCB’s proprietary VOCAP pipeline and technology to interact with multiple actors. Students will get hands-on experience, learning how to work add movement to your lines, mic techniques, and cast recording for Performance Capture.

You’ll have an opportunity to get professional advice to launch your career in games. This 1-Class Online Workshop is taught by the award winning directing/casting team of PCB Productions - the studio behind some of the industry’s biggest game franchises, including Call of Duty, Titanfall, Saints Row, Rainbow 6, and Persona.
RECORDING FROM HOME
ONE-DAY CLASS:
Are-U-Game Workshop includes one comprehensive 4+ Hour Class

Most projects require actors to re-orient their home recording systems to professionally engineer and perform remotely. In this 4+ hour class, we’ll discuss best practices for choosing microphones, pre-amplifiers, using reflection filters, addressing sound transference, evaluating room size and booths, and proper mic placement. We’ll also demonstrate PCB’s proprietary remote recording rigs, and discuss working with script on screen, video etiquette, ADR, and working from home. Students will learn how to orient their work space, mic techniques, and interfacing with game teams. This 1-Class Online Workshop is taught by the award winning directing/casting team of PCB Productions - the studio behind some of the industry’s biggest game franchises, including Call of Duty, Titanfall, Saints Row, Rainbow 6, and Persona.

FACIAL CAPTURE ADR
TWO-DAY WORKSHOP:
Are-U-Game Workshop includes TWO comprehensive 4+ Hour Classes
This advanced TWO-class workshop focuses on FaceCap ADR.
FaceCap ADR is a specialized PCB performance technique to animate facial expressions based on pre-recorded dialog.
This 2-CLASS intensive workout is open to experienced ADR actors or all returning students, who have completed the Are-U-Game workshop, or experienced ADR performers. This workout focuses on a specialized adaptation of PCB's Echo/Repeat and facial capture techniques, as well as working with recording scripts, script notations, matching reference, ADR cues, and more!
